Cub Scout Webelos Rank

Webelos stands for "WE'll BE LOyal Scouts" and is for boys who are ten years old or have completed the third grade. These Scouts
work on requirements for their Webelos Badge, twenty activity badges, as well as the Arrow of Light (the highest award
in Cub Scouting). In February of a Webelos Scout's fifth grade year, he graduates from Cub Scouting
into Boy Scouting. There are two levels of Webelos scouts, first and second year.

WEBELOS BADGE REQUMEMENTS

  1. Have an adult member of your family read and sign the tear-out Parent Guide in the front of the Webelos Scout Book.

  2. Be an active member of your Webelos den for 3 months (Active means having good attendance, paying den dues, working on den projects).

  3. Know and explain the meaning of the Webelos badge.

  4. Point out and explain the three parts of the Webelos Scout uniform. Tell when to wear the uniform and when not to wear it.

  5. Earn the Fitness activity badge and two other activity badges from different activity badge groups.

  6. Plan and lead a flag ceremony in your den.

  7. Show that you know and understand the requirements to be a Boy Scout.

  8. Complete one of the following:

    * If you earned your faith's religious emblem when you were a Wolf or Bear Cub Scout, you must do two of the other religious requirements listed under (b). Webelos religious emblems are listed on pages 434 - 435. (of the Webelos Scout Book, ©1998)

** Completion of requirement (b) does not qualify a youth to receive the religious emblem of his faith.

When a boy has completed these requirements, and has them signed off by his Webelos Den Leader, he has earned the right to wear the Webelos badge.

The badge should be ceremoniously presented as soon as possible at an upcoming Pack meeting.

After earning his Webelos badge, a boy can begin working on his Arrow of Light Requirements.

ARROW OF LIGHT AWARD REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be active in your Webelos den for at least 6 months since completing the fourth grade (or for at least six months since becoming 10 years old), and earn the Webelos badge.

  2. Show your knowledge of the requirements to become a Boy Scout by doing all of these:

  3. Earn five more activity badges in addition to the three you already earned for the Webelos badge. The total of eight activity badges must include:

  4. With your Webelos den, visit at least one Boy Scout troop meeting, and one Boy Scout-oriented outdoor activity.

  5. Participate in a Webelos overnight campout or day hike.

  6. After you have completed all five of the above requirements, and after a talk with your Webelos den leader, arrange to visit, with your parent or guardian, a meeting of the Boy Scout troop you think you might like to join. Have a conference with the Scoutmaster. This is one of the most important requirements. You will talk with the Scoutmaster and turn in an application to become a Boy Scout. (Note to parents: Paperwork to join a troop may not actually be processed until boys receive the Arrow of Light Award and are ready to become a member of the troop, but this final step encourages him to continue in Scouting and enjoy the program's benefits)
