The Pack Attack

Official Newsletter of Pack 1313 October 26, 2004

Thanks to Pam Slomiany for arranging tonight’s Pack Hayride!

Our theme for November’s pack meeting (November 16, 2004 at 7pm) is Charity.  Autumn Neely, the Volunteer Coordinator at the Washington City Mission will be giving a short presentation to our Pack and we’re asking that everyone bring a non-perishable to the meeting.  When asked what food the Mission needs most, they asked for bags of stuffing for the turkeys they’ll be serving for Thanksgiving.

December brings our Christmas Party (December 14) and our Annual Fellar’s Cake Bake.  Stay tuned for details!

Also watch for information on Trailblazers at Heritage in May 2005.  Participants last year reported an exciting day for Scout and Father with fishing, BB shooting, bow and arrow, Ruffed Grouse Society, Pennsylvania Trappers presentations and activities.

Pack Fact

Why the Fleur-de-Lis as a symbol for Scouting?

“The actual meaning to be read from the fleur-de-lis is that it points in the right direction (and upward) turning neither to the left nor the right, since these can lead backwards again.

"The stars on the two side arms may also be read to mean that the way is blocked and wrong, though they actually stand for the two eyes of the Wolf Cub having been opened before he became a scout, when he gained his first class badge of two stars.

"Furthermore, the three points of the fleur-de-lis remind the Scout of the three points of the Scout's Promise."

- Robert Baden-Powell (Founder of the World Scout Movement, Chief Scout of the World)
